For details on specific deductions available in Georgia, see the list of Georgia income tax deductions.

4.1 - Georgia Standard Deduction

What is the GA Standard Deduction for 2024? Unlike many other states, Georgia has no standard deduction. Keep in mind that not all deductions allowed on your federal income tax return are necessarily going to be allowed on your Georgia income tax return.

Unlike most states, Georgia does not have a dependent deduction. You can, however, claim dependent deductions on your Federal Tax Return.

Georgia allows itemized deductions, and you can claim the same itemized deductions on your Georgia tax return as you do on your Federal tax return. You must choose between itemizing your deductions and choosing the Georgia standard deduction, so it's generally only worth itemizing your deductions if your itemized total is more then the Georgia and Federal standard deductions.
